The spatial-temporal evolution analysis of carbon emission of China's thermal power industry based on the three-stage SBM—DEA model

Purpose China has proposed two-stage goals of carbon peaking by 2030 and neutralization 2060. The emission reduction effect the power industry, especially thermal will directly affect progress goal. This paper aims to reveal spatial-temporal characteristics influencing factors efficiency industry proposes policy suggestions for realizing China’s peak goals. Design/methodology/approach evaluates compares in 29 provinces regions from 2014 2019 based on three-stage slacks-based measure (SBM) data envelopment analysis (DEA) model undesired output, excluding influence environmental random errors. Findings Empirical results show that during sample period, shows a fluctuating upward trend, varies greatly among provincial regions. interregional presents pattern “eastern > central western,” which is consistent with level regional economic development.
